We wasted our best chance at a Dvorak joke
The mainstream internet had the best chance it's ever going to get to make a Dvorak joke and we utterly, utterly failed. Let's talk about the "Look between [insert letter] and [insert letter] on your keyboard" meme.
It might be the 900+ day streak in Duolingo talking or the part of me that's always going "Should we look at this through another culture or lived experience's lens?" but why are we so comfortable assuming it's QWERTY?
Yes, yes, I *know* it's QWERTY for most folks, but stop and think about it. Before the smartphone, you might go your whole life without having to learn or encounter that not every region with a Romanized alphabet uses QWERTY.
You're very likely to be engaging with and posting that content from a device that doesn't have a physical keyboard and, therefore, can use any of the layouts globally available—including QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ and Dvorak.
And, y'know, if you're a Duolingo die-hard like me, you might even be trying to practice typing in the language you're learning. The iOS keyboard is magic.
This meme, uh, this meme doesn't work so well with hiragana.
